DOES FLIP FEEL MORE SECURE?

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

I received a desperate email from Flip’s pet mom.

Flip had suddenly started peeing on and under the bed the day her son came to the house with his Huskey. The behavior was throwing her off and making it difficult to keep her house from smelling.

She and her husband had Flip, the 3-year-old Rat Terrier, for 5 months and found him to be subdued, preferring to be inside rather than out. He wouldn’t come out of his kennel in the morning for mom and the only way he came out was with her husband’s coaxing.

When Flip and I met, he showed me the Huskey reminded him of a dog at the shelter who snapped at him. Flip became afraid in his house and hid under the bed and told me he peed. Flip’s pet mom told me Flip had the experience of being snapped at while in the shelter; I believe she said it was his littermate.

I made an appointment to do Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping) with Flip to help him change his story.

His story unfolded that he was suffering from the emotion of shame – his body was his shame and his natural mother had somehow shamed him. He felt like an outcast. He felt disliked.

The incident with the Huskey put him back into these feelings but we changed them with the Tapping.

Now that he had transitioned from shame, I began with positive statements to which he responded. He gave up being disliked; he liked himself; his Adoptive Family loves and accepts him even though he pees in the house; I am safe. We finished the taping session with: It is safe for Flip to let go of peeing in the house.

I asked his pet mom and dad (they included her sister) to repeat Flip’s final phrase, ‘It is safe for Flip to let go of peeing in the house,’ periodically throughout the following days and when I called back two days later, they reported:

There has been no peeing since the Tapping session.

It also seems Flip is feeling safe in his home. His pet mom reported: He is letting go of being subdued; for example, hopping onto their grandson’s lap and lying on the bed with him. He is sitting with them in the front yard (sounds like an improvement over having to coax him to go outside). Flip laid down close to Flynn, one of their other dogs, which was unusual. And she was so glad to say this was the first time Flip followed her out of his crate rather than her husband having to coax him.

Congratulations to Flip and his family. They will call if they need me, but I don’t expect to hear from them, at least not for Flip. But they do have 3 other dogs. I love you, Flip.
